We got our return tickets each for around S$400 during the pre-NATAS Jetstar sale.
Only a little more than a month away and we've yet to book our hotel :P hohoho...
mother's day
Pietrasanta - The Italian Restaurant
we went there on Labour's Day only to find out it was fully reserved for 2 days!
Reservation is CERTAINLY necessary~
opened on 12 April 2008 we are 1 day short of its one month anniversary
W2 was our reservation number
and free flow home made bread of the night was little scone-shaped buns
italian style, bread was eaten with olive oil & balsamic vinaigrette in cute candle like holders..
we knew of this place from the papers where the writer drop everything just to try their Trippa Florentina ($13.90)
it is veal tripe cooked in tomato sauce
super chewy and yummy~
supposedly authentic Florence style too (i dun recall eating that in Florence..)
seafood soup ($16.90) was abit disappointing as it was fishy (even I can taste that)
though the ingredients were fresh and cooked just nice
i saw other tables eating Saute Di Cozzae Al Pomodoro Fresco, or Black Mussels in White Wine and Fresh Tomatoes ($18.00) which was recommended by other pple
shall try that next time
after appetizer was 3 main dishes (pasta, pizza and meat)
the mother find the lamb too strong for her liking though we all love it
she loves the gnocchi which you either love or hate it due to the blue cheese
i personally love blue cheese
and for your info..blue cheese is NOT blue.. hahaha (private joke with dear)
Pizza was recommended on the papers.. nicely done
if you love it you can go to the other branch at holland which serve only pizza
here comes the highlights of the night
wat's the point of going to an italian restaurant without tasting its dessert~
we din try the classic tiramisu but had the melting choc cake ($8.90) instead
it was EXCELLENT!
after eating the choco cake at Spaghetti (which is the same as the one at munchy monkie)
we were craving for warm melting choco cake served with cold and sweet vanilla ice-cream
this did the trick yum~
house specialty was a lemon custard like cake on almond cookie ($6.90)
ultra sweet candy floss like cake that melts in your mouth
it leaves an after taste that lingers for a long time
not for the non sweet-toother~
this mess of things was an unknown when we ordered
cannot recall the name but it was Ostia D Frolla ($8.90) on the bill
warm despite its look
it contains almond cookies with chopped chunks of green apple and raisins both baked with custard and sprinkled with choco powder
sweet and not overly sweet like the lemon cake
crunchy apples gave the mother ideas for future homemake dessert
definitely a place to go again
lots of dishes recommended and we did not try
but do remember..
RESERVE in advance

another recommendation from wong
as the name suggest
it shld b famous for sashimi
for avg $7-8 for 2 pieces sashimi it better be good

chicken teriyaki set comes with udon which was super Q! ($13)
it aso came with some fishball lookalike thingy that taste like yam balls
abit weird but nice..
dear had oyakodon which is chicken with egg and onion in a bowl ($10)
the set prices are pretty reasonable
and taste quite good too

Bertendo
recommendation from wong
dear brought me to great world city for japanese and italian fusion cuisine
about $60 for 2 person
i would say the food was excellent and cheap and affordable for every consumption
(ok, maybe not everyday)
besides the usual drinks (coffee, concentrate juices, tea), they offer wine and beer (mainly from japan)
we had salmon salad which is good but normal ($8.80)
the pasta was excellent
but tips said not to try the tomato sauce ones (which we din)
and we din try the soup base ones too
but i saw others eat them. not the wanton mee soup type. jus a little soup..
1) white sauce (aka cream sauce)
seaweed, bacon and kimchi carbonara ($15.80)the sauce is creamy but not to the extent of puking when u eat too much. the kimchi adds on a unique taste to the dish. and it kind of neutralize the creaminess (if u still think it is too creamy)
2) japanese sauce
natto, squid and shiso in Japanese sauce ($13.80)
i m a sucker for natto.. i basically love all natto dishes but i would say this blew me away. 1st impression was.. "so little?" then we were deciding whether to mix or not to mix.. before i mixed it i ate some natto (woah!! yummy) and of course squid (fresh...). then i mix and the concoction? slimy as he said. well.. if u dun eat lady's finger or eggplant, and certainly not natto, give this a miss.. else.. this dish will bring u to a higher level. i've never eaten any japanese noodle with natto (maybe only rice) and the mix with the sauce is a mus try for all slimy food lovers.
3) dessert
tiramsu ($6.80)
nothing more to say.. not the best i ate.. but the cocoa on top was not totally bitter. generally.. sweeter than usual.. yet again.. it's valentine's day!
oh!! did i say!! dear especially went home to change and gel his hair before bring me out to dinner!!
